A Look Back at This Years WSOP

With all that has been going on with the status of online poker these past few months, it was really nice to get out to vegas for the 2011 Wsop. I had high hopes for my 2nd series, as I knew it could only get better after last years dismal performance. As I look back on my experiences this summer I don’t necessarily feel that I had improved that much at tournament poker. I do however feel that I was more confident and more experienced in the Wsop atmosphere. My summer started off well, cashing my first 2 of 3 events. Overall I had a great summer, cashing in 5 events, 3 of them being Wsop prelims. My deepest run came in a $1500 no lim,it event where I bubbled the final table, finishing in 11th for $31k. I felt I played great throughout the whole tournament but was unlucky to lose a coin flip with just 11 left.

Leading up to the Main Event I felt I was poised and ready to make a deep run. Unfortunately I busted midway through day 1. It was just one of those days where nothing seems to be going right and I was extremely frustrated for most of the day, not with my play, but with the types of situations I was being put in by recreational players, having to make big folds constantly. After the Main Event had ended for me I was pretty disappointed with the results of the summer, but still reasonably happy to be making it out alive and with a little profit!

Before I left Vegas, I decided to play the Caesars Megastack series Main Event. This was a tournament I originally wasn’t planning on playing but thought I might as well because the field was supposed to be big and very soft. It was a 1k reentry tournament with two starting days. I played day 1 and made it through the reentry period on my first buyin. I ended up busting towards the end of the night, and I left the casino ready to come back for the second day 1 and reenter. The next day I showed up a couple hours late to late register, and found out that they had shut out any new players, due to space and staff shortages. I wasn’t even upset because I had a flight home in a couple days and was pretty burnt out from the summer. Two of my friends and I decided to go eat at the Cheesecake Factory inside of Caesars to get some lunch. Towards the end of lunch, my one friend who had made it into day 2 called me saying that they reopened late reg and we could reregister. To make a long story short, I played day 2 and ended up making it to the final table where I chopped 4 handed for 190k! My summer had been saved thanks to a whole bunch of ironic events that seemed to lead me to this fairy tale ending.
